Optimizing Online Learning with the One-to-One Lear Advantage

Our online, one-to-one academic coaching and scholastic tutoring will provide your student with the needed Lear Advantage to make the most of his online classroom experience.

Students face significant challenges learning via online one-way group computer classrooms.  It’s difficult to feel involved while watching from a distance with minimal expectation to be called upon to answer a question or to ask a question before the teacher moves on.  As motivation sinks, attention wanders. They’re then likely to become disinterested, day-dreamers, or actively occupied with distractions.  The computers themselves present convenient distractions.  Checking email, social media or playing that favorite video game may be just a tempting click away.

Our online, interactive, one-to-one academic coaching and scholastic tutoring focuses on the individual student, maintaining their interest as they actively participate.   We provide our students with systematized, individualized, intensive instruction to maximize the student’s success in the new educational environment.  During their online tutoring sessions, the student demonstrates their knowledge and is encouraged to ask questions, discuss new concepts comfortably with his tutor. Your student's understanding of the material presented can be assessed and clarified so that any homework done reinforces the correct teaching.  The student advances building upon strong foundational knowledge.

We teach study skills, learning strategies and techniques to empower our students to maximize their potential, to meet the classroom challenges of today and tomorrow.

We teach, encourage and emphasize the development of executive functions skills that are required for optimal online learning.

Executive function skills include

    • the ability to maintain attention, to persevere with focus when appropriate.  The ability to hold an intention, plan the activity, get started, monitor progress, and follow through to completion.

   • the ability to shift attention when necessary. Having mental flexibility to use various calculations to solve math problems, to explore new opinions, to move on to another subject.  Shifting ability also allows us to adapt to new environments.

    • organization – maintaining orderliness, prioritizing, being prepared.

    • time management – scheduling, awareness of assignments, planning ahead, preparation, understanding the consequences of procrastination, appreciating the confidence from being ready.

   • short term working memory – ability to recall instructions and newly presented knowledge

   • impulse control and emotional regulation – behaving appropriately, having successful social interactions and peer pressure management, avoiding risky actions, resisting off-track impulses.
